Candidates should be active practitioners who can engage with students working in a variety of media and disciplines. The Chair will be a passionate educator who brings a high level of rigor and criticality to their teaching. As a practicing artist, the Chair will represent PAFA and its graduate program to the art world and academic constituencies. The Chair will maintain an active exhibition record, participate in conferences and seminars, attend gallery openings and advocate for professional opportunities for PAFA’s students. The Chair will be an active teacher and will collaborate with the graduate faculty who share in the collegial governance of the program. The MFA Chair will work closely with the Chair of PAFA’s Low-Residency MFA and will oversee the Post-Baccalaureate program, which is administered by a collective group of faculty that teaches in the program.

The Chair will lead in the assessment of the MFA program, review the quality and use of studio/classroom facilities, and manage the program budget. The Chair will evaluate faculty performance, recommend graduate faculty hires, and designate teaching assignments. Other key duties include leading the MFA midterm and final review critiques, planning and implementing graduate student exhibitions, and serving on school and museum committees.

Qualified candidates will have a Master of Fine Arts degree with a minimum of five years’ experience teaching at the college level.
