FULL-TIME FACULTY | FASHION DESIGN | COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT, DESIGN ILLUSTRATION and COMMUNICATION
Salary Range: $60,000- $62,000

Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design invites applications for the position of full-time Assistant Professor of Fashion Design with a strong background in creative ideation methodologies and diverse design communication approaches for teaching and course design and development. Job Summary:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate an adaptive and inspiring teaching style, leadership qualities and interpersonal skills to represent and move the Fashion Design program forward. Additional responsibilities include participating in developing program strategies, events and partnerships; teaching and designing courses for a student centered paradigm; and working collaboratively across the college to support cross-disciplinary approaches and the institution’s mission and values.

Job Responsibilities:

Teaching + Instruction
Teach a minimum of 2 classes within each 8-week term for 5 terms per academic year
Courses taught in this role may include Fashion Design, Fashion Communication and Illustration in addition to other courses as needed
Support faculty in the integration of new methods and technology into the curriculum across the program
Demonstrate day-to-day responsiveness and effectiveness of instruction and administration (as measured by students, supervisor(s), and self-evaluations)
Support the student-centered paradigm and carry out RMCAD’s Philosophy of Teaching and Learning
Create and maintain an inclusive learning environment that encourages a culture of learning, valuing mutual responsibility and respect, life-long learning, and ethics
Pursue ongoing learning to stay current in content, pedagogy + instruction

Service to the Institution
Advise students in academics, career options, and outreach/community activities and opportunities
Participate in organizing and attending program events.
Participate in academic assessment, program reviews, and course and curricular development
Engage with community organizations and associations that promote RMCAD
Mandatory attendance is required for training sessions and departmental meetings

Professional Practice
Contribute discipline-based, interdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary scholarship that advances knowledge and learning (examples can include but are not limited to exhibitions, residencies, collaborations, peer-reviewed articles, texts, chapters, and presentations)

Required Qualifications:
MFA in Fashion Design or a related field
In addition to academic credentials and experience, must show evidence of professional practice of Fashion Design and Illustration and lifelong learning in academic development.
Must be proficient in traditional and non-traditional creative ideation and visual communication, and collection development from concept to product.
Must be proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign.
Must be proficient in hand drawing and visual communication through a variety of media
Familiarity with educational technology and teaching strategies.
Strong written, oral, and online communication skills.
Online candidates must reside in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, or Virginia.
On-Campus candidates must reside in the greater Denver Metro Area.
Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level
Evidence of exemplary student engagement and effective pedagogical strategies

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of ProCreate and CLO3D.
ONLINE university-level teaching experience
Leadership experience or evidence of high-level university service
Curriculum development geared towards an online environment

The Fashion Design department fosters creativity and innovative design. Instruction supports learning an array of construction techniques, accessing the industry of product development and management, and understanding the needs of the human form. Courses provide a broad range of studio and educational experiences that foster artistic, professional, and personal growth. In the degree, Fashion Design core courses emphasize the fundamental principles of material investigation, garment design, garment construction, manufacturing, and the management of garment design development. Foundations courses seek to develop in students the principles of visual composition, observation, and the necessary practice to critique their own work and that of others in a professional manner. Liberal Arts courses offer a broad path of study across academic disciplines in which students develop critical thinking, academic writing skills, and creative inquiry. The Fashion Design Department educates and develops future fashion designers in the technical and conceptual abilities necessary to pursue professional careers in the fashion industry.
