Interior Design: The nationally ranked, CIDA-accredited program has approximately 113 pre-majors at freshman level and 177 majors competitively selected for the sophomore to senior sequenced, studio-based program that includes a 10-week professional internship. Students pay an extra professional fee to support specialized program needs and updates, field trips, approved certifications, and others. An industry Advisory Board has provided strong support for 30 years. The INDS Curriculum is also NASAD credited.

Department and University: The Department of Consumer and Design Sciences has 22 faculty positions (17 full-time, tenured/tenure track and 5 lecturers), 596 undergraduates and 29 graduate students. Bachelor of Science programs are Interior Design; Apparel Merchandising, Design and Production Management; and Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies. The graduate program offers master’s and doctoral degrees in Consumer and Design Sciences. Job Summary
The Department of Consumer and Design Sciences at Auburn University is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and collaborative individual for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Interior Design. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, engaging in research and creative scholarship, contributing to the development and accreditation of the program, and promoting the program excellence in and outside the university. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a nationally ranked, CIDA-accredited program with strong industry support and a commitment to excellence in education, research, and engagement. This position is available with a desired start date of August 16, 2025.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate studio and lecture courses, in at least two of the following areas: design foundations/fundamentals; interior materials (e.g., properties, selection, specification, installation); residential design; commercial design; hospitality design; and healthcare/health design
  • Work with program coordinator and faculty team to maintain CIDA-accredited status
  • Productively engage in a program of research and/or creative scholarship with output in publications and/or exhibitions of work
  • Participate in curriculum development, accreditation, and marketing of undergraduate and graduate programs
  • Direct and serve on graduate advising committees
  • Seek internal/external grant opportunities
  • Provide service to the department, college, and university
  • Be actively involved with industry and/or relevant professional associations
