Assistant Professor of Art History

The College of Fine Arts and Communication at Towson University invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor position in the Department of Art + Design, Art History, and Art Education beginning August 2024. Candidates must have a Ph.D. at time of hire and be able to teach Modern and Contemporary Art History, preferably with a specialty in African-American art/art of the Diaspora. The successful candidate will join three tenured art history colleagues and several lecturers in the Department of Art + Design, Art History, and Art Education and will be expected to show annual evidence of substantial research, to advise majors, to serve on faculty committees, and to teach a variety of courses including a global survey and classes of their own design on modern and contemporary African-American art as well as art of the Diaspora. The candidate may have curatorial opportunities in our University Art Gallery and will also be encouraged to engage with a vibrant African and African-American Studies program, to work with graduate students in art and the humanities, and to take advantage of Towson's close proximity to major art collections, such as those at the Reginald F.
