Faculty Position in Digital Humanities at Full Professor / Associate Professor Level

The School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) at NTU, Singapore, invites qualified academics with a strong creative practice to apply for a faculty position in Digital Humanities as Full Professor / Associate Professor Level (tenure track).

a) The candidate will create and deliver compelling undergraduate and postgraduate courses through the integration of innovative teaching methods and cutting-edge technologies. The candidate will revise and enhance curricula to align with current industry trends, ensuring responsiveness to evolving global advancements; evaluates student learning outcomes, offer constructive feedback; and assess the effectiveness of courses, fostering continuous improvement in the learning experience.

b) The candidate offers guidance and mentorship to students, nurturing the development of their creative and technical skills in the realm of digital humanities; student projects, offering constructive feedback, and actively support their professional growth through mentorship; advises and mentor students, providing valuable insights into both academic and career development within the field of digital humanities.

c) The candidate engages in scholarly activities and research projects within the digital humanities, emphasizing creative and critical applications of technologies to advance field knowledge; disseminates research findings through publication in esteemed journals and presentations at international conferences; pursues external research funding and grants to sustain research initiatives and contribute to the school’s support; and cultivates interdisciplinary collaborations, fostering partnerships and networks both within NTU and on an international scale.

d) The candidate participates actively in departmental, school, college, and university committees, lending expertise to programme development and contributing to departmental and university-wide initiatives and engages in collaborative efforts with faculty members, industry professionals, and key stakeholders to promote interdisciplinary collaborations and cultivate valuable industry partnerships.

e) The successful candidate will have the ability to teach a range of undergraduate and postgraduate classes, and an interest in curriculum development and leadership. Additional qualifications include:

  • The candidate should demonstrate a solid grasp of analytical methods that inform the Digital Humanities in the Arts Design and Media, such as digital heritage preservation, text/data mining, cultural analytics, data visualization, data modelling, designing user-experiences, educational games, digitally mediated articulations of literature and art, adaptation studies, medical arts/humanities, multimodal digitization, natural language processing and linguistics, and/or digital mapping or any interdisciplinary combinations of these fields.
  • The candidate should demonstrate a profound understanding of humanities disciplines, such as media (film, animation, games and interactive), design, literature, history, philosophy, arts, or other relevant domains based on their specialization. In addition, the candidate must possess the expertise to seamlessly integrate digital methodologies into traditional humanities teaching and learning approaches.
  • The candidate should demonstrate a distinguished record of impactful research in Digital Humanities, evidenced by a history of grants secured, publications in reputable journals, active participation in conferences, and engagement in research projects that significantly contribute to the field’s advancement.
  • The candidate should demonstrate proficiency to apply a diverse array of digital technologies, tools, and platforms employed in digital humanities research. This expertise spans areas such as data analysis software, digital archives, content management systems, and other pertinent technologies crucial to the discipline. While technological expertise is not at the center, the ability to competently supervise interdisciplinary art/humanities/technology-research is of the essence.”
  • The candidate should demonstrate a proven track record of leadership within the academic community, showcasing experience in assuming administrative roles, actively participating in committees, and providing mentorship to junior faculty and students.

The successful applicant will contribute to the School’s development of the undergraduate and graduate curricula as well as to research within the arts, design and media disciplines. Applicants should possess a strong background in professional photography and university-level teaching experience, including mentoring of final student practical projects or theses. A strong international reputation in the field, including a significant exhibition or publishing record is a priority. PhD degree or a terminal degree from a humanities discipline and have 10 years proven track experience in teaching digital humanities courses or applying computational methods in both pedagogy and research, is expected.

International applicants with a background in transdisciplinary and multicultural practice and research are encouraged. The candidate is expected to maintain an active research/creative production profile, as well as a commitment to teaching and service to the school. An open, collaborative approach, and willingness to work across areas and departments of the school and university, is a priority. This position will also involve administrative activities and committee participation. The salary and level of appointment offered will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
