The Department of Architecture at the University at Buffalo - The State University of New York (SUNY) seeks applications for a clinical assistant/associate professor (professor of practice) and director of digital fabrication.

With one of the premier fabrication workshops in the country, the university has invested significant resources the past three years to advance digital fabrication capabilities. This includes new robotic, CNC, laser, waterjet, 3D printing, and AR/VR technologies. The ambition of these investments and this search is to bolster faculty research, amplify students’ educational and career opportunities, expand the department’s industry partnerships and capacity for built projects, and launch innovative new programs. Building on Buffalo’s history as a hub of social and technological innovation, as well as SUNY’s and UB’s commitment to a world-class campus, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to lead transformative changes to the department’s digital fabrication facilities.

The department is interested in candidates from various backgrounds, including those with industry, professional, and/or academic experience. The department also seeks to address the under-representation of women and minorities among its faculty, and asks all candidates, regardless of background, to demonstrate a commitment to inclusive excellence. This includes the ability to work with under-represented students, faculty, staff, and partners.

Enthusiasm for and capacity to learn new software, tools, and techniques are essential. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to working with faculty, staff, and students to promote a positive and inclusive climate, while fostering a spirit of innovation. While candidates are not required to have experience in all areas, the position entails:
• teaching core architectural courses and/or specialized courses in digital fabrication
• developing new, specialized degree programs
• supporting faculty research, including proposal development and project delivery
• cultivating industry partnerships
• supervising student assistants
