Artist/Teacher of Percussion - Assistant Professor
The University of Kansas School of Music seeks to fill a full-time, academic year (nine month), artist performer to teach applied percussion lessons (Undergraduate and Graduate) and related courses beginning on August 18, 2024. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track). This position will need to maintain a strong percussion studio, work individually and collaboratively in recruiting music performance, music education, and music therapy students; supervise/mentor teaching assistants; work cooperatively in support of the School of Music and the University, including service on graduate and faculty committees; establish a research/creative agenda pursuant of artistic growth and an expanding reputation of excellence; participate actively in the cultural and intellectual life of the School and the University. The successful candidate will be surrounded by colleagues who share a passion for artistic expression, educating students, creating professional opportunities in the field, and who are eager for collaborations and engagement in identifying innovations in learning, research, and service.

Research/Creative Work 40%
- Teach applied percussion lessons (undergraduate and graduate) and related courses
- Build and maintain a strong percussion studio

- Doctoral degree in music; ABD candidates will be considered if degree will be completed by August 17, 2024; OR a Master’s degree in music with 3 years' professional performance experience
- Demonstrated record of productive teaching excellence and recruitment at the collegiate or equivalent level
- Documented success as a percussion artist/performer

In addition to the online application. Applicants should submit a letter of interest (that includes proposals of potential courses in musicology or music theory in the candidate's area of expertise), curriculum vitae, contact information (e-mail and telephone) for 3 references who can be contacted for recommendation; a 1-2 page statement discussing personal teaching philosophy within a comprehensive university school of music, including objectives and the means of achieving those objectives; and internet links to recent performances and live video recordings of one or more private percussion lessons. The performance recordings should be approximately 30 minutes in total length and contain at least 15 minutes of live video recordings. Other materials upon request only.
