Dr. Darrell Brown is the director of the Wind Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, and Jazz Ensemble at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin, where he also teaches conducting and courses in music education and is the creator/director of the university’s new Weird Box Ensemble. He has previously held similar positions at Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg, Idaho, and at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was previously the Musical Director and Conductor of the Rexburg Tabernacle Orchestra and the Idaho Falls Youth Symphony in Idaho, the Corpus Christi Municipal Band in Texas, as well as the Assistant Director of the Utah Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra. Brown is also a regular guest conductor with recent engagements in Italy, Portugal, Brazil, Cuba, and Spain, and ensembles under his baton have performed for audiences at conferences for the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and the Wisconsin Music Educators Association (WMEA).
Dr. Brown taught music at the Camelot Schools in Kwekwe, Zimbabwe and high school in Las Vegas, Nevada and Provo, Utah. A student of G. Thomas Leslie, Brown received his DMA from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He received his MM in Conducting and his BM in Instrumental Music Education from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. As an active composer, Dr. Brown writes music for a wide array of ensembles with recent premieres at events such as a CBDNA conference and a conference of the Iowa Bandmasters Association, and has music published through Murphy Music Press. Dr. Brown is a member of NAfME, NBA, CBDNA, IGEB, and is a board member of the international band organization, the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE).
