HANS J. GALUTERA’s experience is in the art and science of enhancing the space of a venue to achieve a safer,
healthier and more aesthetically pleasing contextual and architectural interior design. Hans is widely viewed as a
global hospitality designer where he is equally at home in the United States, Europe, and the Pacific Rim. Upon
graduating from Melbourne College of Decoration in Australia and Magna Cum Laude in FIT SUNY in New York City in
the United States, Galutera apprenticed in prestigious design firms such as Daniel Romualdez Architects, CITE Design
and Birch Coffey Design Associates.
Shortly after in New York City Feb 2002, Galutera established his own multidisciplinary firm (with his business partner,
Italian architect Francesca Bucci) BG Studio International Inc. which encompassed all aspects of design – from
commercial and residential interiors to furniture, products, exhibitions, and graphics. In 2004, the studio began
specializing in maritime hospitality design onboard Royal Caribbean International’s Enchantment of the Seas. This is the
first ever lengthening project of a ship cut in half and rejoined to create revenue generating spaces for the second
biggest cruiseline of the world. Since then, signature restaurants have been created for celebrity chefs such as Michel
Roux on Celebrity Cruises Specialty Restaurants and Michael Schwartz on Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas just
to name a few. His Penthouse Suite designs include the award-winning Celebrity Cruises Reflection of the Seas for the
Society of British International Design at the House of Lords in London, UK.
Hans is an educator and frequent speaker in conferences and universities in the United States and
abroad. In 2012, he was appointed New York Chapter President of the International Interior Design Association, a
global organization supporting design professionals, industry affiliates, educators, students, firms and their clients with a
network of 15,000+ members across 58 countries. He is also a current Board Member for New York 11 Plus, a not-forprofit
corporation, comprised of prestigious New York State Educational Institutions offering four-year or more programs
in Interior Design such as Cornell, Fashion Institute of Technology SUNY, New York School of Interior Design, Pratt, Parsons
School of Design, School of Visual Arts, New York Institute of Technology, Villa Maria College, Buffalo State University of
New York, Rochester Institute of Technology, Syracuse University, Sage College of Albany among many.
His outstanding contribution to the world of design has been recognized by the International Council for Caring
Communities, not-for-profit organization that has Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council
(ECOSOC) of the United Nations. ICCC acts as a bridge linking government, civil society organizations, the private
sector, universities and the United Nations where Hans served as Advisory Board Member for its Student Competition
from 2012-2016.
Hans has also become a frequent contributor for international lifestyle and design industry magazines such as Boutique
Design Magazine, Inside ID UK Edition and Yue Magazine. His expertise has allowed him to be judge and juror for
prestigious organizations and publications but his favourite is the review of student projects in accredited interior design
universities.
